ITINERARY

Arrive in Cortina d’Ampezzo on your own (private transfer available on request). Cortina d’Ampezzo is a charming alpine resort town surrounded by stunning peaks, uniquely sheltered from the cold winds of the north, giving it a pleasantly mild climate that tourists can enjoy year-round. Host to the 1956 Winter Olympics, Cortina enjoys a reputation for great skiing in winter, and in the summer attracts hikers and climbers who challenge the rocky faces of the nearby mountains. This chic Alpine town also caters to the high society crowd, offering many year-round social activities, shopping, and fine dining. Dinner included at a traditional restaurant in the area.

INCLUDED:
Hotel in Cortina d’Ampezzo 4 Stars
Dinner

Faloria and Cristallo Ski Areas In the morning, meet your local English speaking UIAGM/IFMGA Professional Ski Guide for a trip briefing and to receive your lift passes. You will also receive a duffel bag to be packed with your belongings for the two nights spent at rifugios (1 per room).

Today you will discover the resort of Cortina d’Ampezzo, with its 140 kilometers (87 miles) of slopes and 42 lifts, well known all over the world also as host to the first ever televised Winter Olympics in 1956. This area offers some of the most exhilarating and beautiful alpine ski runs in the world.

Ski in the Faloria and Cristallo areas of Cortina, and feel the excitement of being completely surrounded by a UNESCO World Heritage Site! Choose from 24 pistes (5 black runs, 11 red runs, 8 blue runs) with a total of 44 kilometers (27.3 miles). In good weather, there are stunning views over the Ampezzo Valley, including down to the town of Cortina d’Ampezzo, and across to the Cinque Torri peaks and the Tofana area.

Dinner included at a traditional restaurant in the area.

INCLUDED:
Dinner in a local restaurant
Hotel in Cortina d’Ampezzo 4 Stars
Breakfast, Dinner

Begin your ski day in the Tofane area. 30 pistes (6 black runs, 12 red runs, 13 blue runs and 6 green runs) with a total of 29,2 miles. From the beginners’ slopes of the lower area you can quickly reach the technically very demanding pistes such as the ‘Canalone’ and the famous Schuss.

The Freccia nel Cielo cable-car takes you up to a height of 8,202′ to the Ra Valles area. If you take the Skitour Olympia route, you can venture onto the unforgettable peaks of the 1956 Olympic races, which today host the Women’s Skiing World Cup. But if you’re an expert skier and looking for an adrenaline rush, try the black run ‘Vertigine Bianca’: because of its steepness, it’s one of the two slopes in Cortina that never get bashed.

In the afternoon take a private transfer to enjoy the slopes at Mount Lagazuoi and Cinque Torri (Five Towers) area, whose characteristic profile isn’t comprised of just 5 towers, but by a mass of secondary boulders, fractured towers and peaks sprinkled liberally across the entire area. These peaks are located to the west of Cortina on a grassy hillock just above the tree line at circa 7,218′.

Check into your rifugio and enjoy a wonderful homemade dinner.

INCLUDED:
Rifugio
Breakfast, Dinner

mount-pelmo

In the morning take a private transfer to the Civetta ski area.

Surrounded by plenty of uncontaminated views and majestic peaks, the valleys of Alleghe, Selva di Cadore, Zoldo, and Palafavera of Monte Civetta are rich in history and tradition. This area became famous during the 19th century, during the final century of the Venetian Doges, when the first winter guests discovered the imposing beauty and timeless charm of Monte Civetta and in particular Monte Pelmo – known as “God’s Throne.” On the slopes of these two giants surrounded by the Sella Group, the Tofane Massifs and the imposing Marmolada, you will find the largest ski district in the Veneto region. The Ski Civetta area offers a wide range of slopes and attracts skiers of all levels, for a total of 80km / 49,7 miles and 23 lifts.

In the afternoon, for the second part of your day, take a private transfer to Falcade and ski the area of Passo San Pellegrino: more than 60 kilometers (37 miles) of slopes spread out at altitudes between 1,918 and 2,513 meters (6,293-8,245′), all equipped with 26 cutting edge lift systems.

At the end of your skiing day, a snow-cat will pick you up from the main road and take you to your rifugio (1,980m / 6,496′) for the night. Set in a magnificent group of isolated old huts, this rifugio is immersed in the complete silence of a wide valley with a view of the Pale di San Martino peaks. Get ready to taste delicious dishes at the Rifugio’s renowned and traditional restaurant, mentioned in several culinary guides, appreciated not only for the quality of the food, but also for its warmth and welcoming hospitality.

INCLUDED:
Rifugio
Breakfast, Dinner

The time has come to ski a portion of the Sellaronda circuit, one of the most spectacular circuits of the world, circumnavigating the Sella Massif. Considered somewhat of a “merry-go-round” for intermediate level skiers, this unique circular connection of lifts and runs was once the only way the ancient inhabitants of the Ladin villages could maintain a connection with each other.

Nowadays it’s a modern-day carousel that connects four Dolomite passes, four Ladin valleys (Val Gardena, Alta Badia, Val di Fassa, and Livinallongo), and three districts – you’ll have the opportunity to see more of the Dolomites in one day than many see on an entire trip! Although the Sellaronda is a relatively short tour that can be easily done in one day, with a length of just under 40 kilometers (25 miles), 26 of which are ski slopes (16 miles), but requiring approximately 2 hours of ski lift travel time and high elevations, you will begin the tour in the morning to ensure ample time for completion before lift service closes for the day.

Located in a large valley surrounded all around by the gorgeous peaks of the Dolomites, Alta Badia is truly the “heart of the Dolomites.” Geographically in the South Tyrol (Südtirol), this area was part of Austria prior to the First World War. Here you’ll find unique mountain scenery with villages rich in natural beauties and ancient traditions, witness the simple everyday life of the local people (the “Ladini”), as well as the customs and traditions of the ancient Ladin culture.

In the afternoon check-in into your Hotel followed by dinner at the hotel’s restaurant.

Included:
Hotel in Alta Badia 4 Stars
Breakfast, Dinner

In the morning ski to the town of Arabba, take the Porta Vescovo cable car and continue through slopes and lifts to Malga Ciapela, where you’ll find the first of the three cable cars taking you up to the Marmolada Glacier. Known as the “Queen of the Dolomites,” Marmolada (3,350m / 10,990′) is the highest peak and the only glacier in these mountains, providing some of the most spectacular skiing experiences on earth. You will get our full share of stunning views all around you, including the Catinaccio, Sassolungo, Sella, and Gran Vernel.
Dinner on your own (not included)

Included:
Hotel in Alta Badia 4 Stars
Breakfast

Today you will ski on the slopes of the Val Gardena / Alpe di Siusi Ski Resort (Gröden / Seiser Alm in German). From December to April each year, this marvelous resort invites winter sports enthusiasts of all levels to explore its countless pistes and descents. 79 lifts serve the 175 kilometers (108.7 miles) of dreamy slopes that run as far as the eye can see, and efficient modern lift systems ensure a comfortable ski holiday here. The wide, generous and gentle slopes of the highest high-altitude Alpine plain in Europe, Alpe di Siusi / Seiser Alm, are a veritable paradise for beginners and families with children. The open expanse is like a front row seat facing the snowy paradise of the Dolomite Peaks! But don’t worry ¬– Val Gardena offers plenty of challenging terrain as well: it is home to annual World Cup Ski Races, and world-renowned for its champions.

Dinner at the hotel.

Included:
Hotel in Alta Badia 4 Stars

Breakfast and departure on your own (private transfer available on request).

TRIP HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Experience the unique, charming atmosphere of the rifugios – alpine mountain huts – the best in the Alps
  • Experience the Dolomiti Superski – a “carousel” of 12 inter-connected resorts with 1,200 kilometers (746 miles) of prepared pistes!
  • Enjoy the advantage of lift-service pistes to help you move from resort to resort each day – you may never ski the same run twice!

On your ski safari traverse you’ll enjoy different ski areas featuring kilometers of prepared pistes (all on one ski pass!) that will lead you to discover the breathtaking beauty of the Dolomites. With such expansive skiable terrain, this is truly a vacation in paradise: we’ll move from valley to valley on skis, enjoy the welcoming atmosphere of the rifugios, explore the fascinating culture and history of these mountains, all while dining on incredible cuisine and sampling fine wines found in the region.

The traditions and history of these places, all while engaging in the beautiful sport of skiing. The imposing peaks of the Dolomites emerged from primordial marine expanses, created by microorganisms that were embraced and molded by the glaciers during the ice age. Providing extraordinary terrain, these incredible mountains have become famous the world over as one of the most beloved areas for winter sports. Boasting the number one ski resort in the world, the Dolomites are a winter sports paradise for families, beginners, and champions alike.

This ski tour offers you the opportunity to explore the Ladin valleys of the Dolomites and their people, as well as discover the traditions and history of these places, all while engaging in the beautiful sport of skiing. You’ll explore Alta Badia and Cortina d’Ampezzo, known for their Ladin culture and cuisine.

ARENAL AREA

Arenal Volcano

Arenal Volcano National Park and La Fortuna

La Fortuna is a town in the Northern Plains, home to the majestic Arenal Volcano and one of the most beautiful places in Costa Rica because of its natural and geological wealth and the wide range of tourist activities. The Arenal Volcano is an active volcano although its activity has significantly decreased since 2011. However, there continue to be two very different landscapes in its structure: a cover of dense, green vegetation, and another dominated by lava and sand of the last eruptions.

La-Fortuna-Waterfall

Hot Springs of La Fortuna

The hot waters from the Arenal Volcano are rich in minerals associated with health, so it is one of the most visited sites in the country for relaxing and enjoying an extraordinary natural landscape in the rainforest. There are several tourist developments that offer hot springs, but particularly noteworthy is the River Tabacon hot springs, which have an average temperature of 37 degrees Celsius and runs freely into the river.

Located on the southeast side of the volcano is Chato Hill which is an extinct volcano with an altitude of 1,140 m.s.n.m. Currently, in the crater you can see a greenish lagoon about 550 meters across, bordered by dense vegetation. To reach the lagoon you must walk an average of 5 hours in a narrow walkway, all worth the while to appreciate the beauty of the place. At the entrance to the main road to Chato Hill is the waterfall La Fortuna, one of the jewels of this place measuring 70 meters high and with pools for cooling off.

Near the village of Guatuso, along the Frio River is the Maleku Indigenous Reserve. Currently, the population has approximately 600 people, so you can visit some villages that preserve their culture, as in the case of El Sol, Margarita, and Tonjibe. In the area of La Fortuna there is also a small settlement that aims to show Maleku culture for tourism purposes and preserve their customs.

The Celeste River is one of the natural wonders of Costa Rica, formed from the union of two rivers with different mineral content from the slopes of the Tenorio Volcano, this gives the waters of this river a very particular blue color. The river is protected by the Tenorio National Park, which offers a trail of 7 kilometers surrounding the area, showing the main geological attractions, such as Teñideros, hot springs, the intense sky-blue waterfall, hot springs and fumaroles, between others.

A few kilometers from the center of La Fortuna is the country’s largest artificial lake. Lake Arenal is an anchored dam between forests and mountains that is 87.8 square kilometers, and at an elevation of 546 meters above sea level, this lagoon is ideal for boat tours, kayaking, fishing tourism and water skiing; windsurfing and SUP, among others.

The Black Reed Wildlife Refuge is located north of Costa Rica adjacent to the border of Nicaragua. There is a wetland of about 10,171 hectares surrounded by its extensive biodiversity, especially for species migrating from January to March, which require areas like this to make their migrating tour successfully. It is an ideal site for bird watching; so many visitors choose to take boat trips on the waters of the Frio River to reach Black Reed. The village of Black Reed is small but offers all a tourist needs to explore the area.

The area of Bajos del Toro, located at 1,442 meters above sea level, conceals natural treasures, among them Toro Amarillo and Agrio River Waterfalls. The biggest of all are the Toro Amarillo Waterfalls, measuring 90 meters high, and is formed from the union of three rivers: Toro Amarillo River, Desagüe River and Agrio River (named for its lemony taste), all of which have water with high mineral content that makes the landscape a fairy tale scene. Its landscape is unique because it has a particular blend of rivers, waterfalls, hydroelectric projects, natural reserves, and agricultural landscapes.

Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui is a typical riverbank community, surrounded by forests and agricultural plantations, featuring rural architecture and numerous hammock bridges. Sarapiqui River tours allow you to watch wildlife from the dock. This area also allows you to enjoy whitewater rafting. The Sarapiqui River is 84 kilometers long and connects with the San Juan River (bordering Nicaragua), Barra del Colorado and Tortuguero. Near the town of Sarapiqui you can find the Vara Blanca and Cinchona communities, which offer the traveler very beautiful rural landscapes combined with dense vegetation. Imposed within its lush forest are a series of beautiful waterfalls culminating with the La Paz Waterfall.

Following the road bordering Lake Arenal one can locate along the way the little green lagoon Cote or Coter, standing at approximately 680 meters above sea level. Although the distance appears short, it has a diameter of 1 kilometer and its geological features have made several Costa Rican scientists believe that it could be a crater of an extinct volcano. Currently, it has recreational and tourist use, offering boat trips and artisanal fishing.

Ancient Cedars has three bedrooms with king beds, including one master bedroom with a honeymoon-suite-inspired lounge area and private terrace. There are also two bedrooms with queen beds and two bedrooms with two twin beds each. All seven bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms.

Take in the absolute best views of Park City with a hot air balloon ride high above the town. Gaze out over Kamas Valley as you ascend thousands of feet into the sky with the Wasatch Mountains forming a rugged skyline to the west and the streets of Park City gradually getting smaller and smaller. It’s a smooth ride to the top where quiet contemplation awaits.

With the balloon fully inflated and the colorful panels of fabric standing at attention, it’s time for your flight. The ascension to the sky will take place gradually. So gentle is the rise that you might be 1,000 feet up in the air before you notice the height you’ve climbed. Because of this, hot air balloon rides are recommended even for those with a fear of heights—as long as they are not in a state of panic—and some have even cited the experience as helpful in overcoming this fear.

During winter, the snow-capped mountains and frost-covered land is a magnificent sight to behold. Come spring, the green of new life begins to emerge and you can see both snow and defrosted forests. Summertime typically offers clear blue skies and green landscapes as far as the eye can see. Once fall has set in, the view is dotted with trees turning autumnal hues of orange, red, and yellow.
