A Scandinavian Adventure for Six: Copenhagen, Norway’s Fjords & Stockholm

After nearly two weeks of traveling together, Michelle sent Marion this message:

“Thank you for planning such a beautiful trip. We all had such a memorable and wonderful time. We enjoyed every single bit of it. You planned it perfectly. I really appreciate that.

A couple things really stuck out. I loved Flam and I really enjoyed the 4 course cooking meal with Gray. He taught us a lot of things. It was a fun fun night. The food that we cooked was so spectacular words can’t even describe it.

The fjord’s are truly stupendous, watching them on the national geographic, or seeing them in pictures, doesn’t do them any justice. You can tell there is a God.

I think we all enjoyed ourselves immensely. I loved Copenhagen, I thought Norway was one of the most beautiful countries I’ve ever seen. Sweden eh not one of my favorites, but I’m glad I went there.

Copenhagen: Starting the Adventure Together

The journey began in Copenhagen, with time to experience the city together as well as some very memorable food. One of the special additions Marion arranged was a private four-hour Nordic cooking and dining experience, and it ended up being one of Michelle’s favorite moments of the entire trip.

The group didn’t simply sit down for dinner. They got into the kitchen themselves, learned from their chef and then enjoyed what they had created together.

From the looks of those plates, they did rather well.

Then Came Norway

From Oslo, the journey moved deeper into Norway, eventually reaching Flåm and the fjords. The itinerary included rail travel from Oslo through Myrdal to Flåm, followed by experiences on and around the fjords before continuing toward Bergen.

This is also where photographs start becoming slightly inadequate.

Michelle said it best: seeing the fjords on television or in pictures simply doesn’t compare with standing there yourself.

Flåm, Bergen and a Lot of Norway

The Norwegian portion mixed spectacular scenery with experiences chosen specifically for this group: time in Flåm, fjord scenery and waterfalls, a fjord cruise, Bergen and a private fishing excursion.

The Bergen fishing experience was not just a sightseeing cruise. The four-hour private trip included a skipper and guide, fishing and preparing the catch on board, exactly the kind of experience that turns into a story everyone is still talking about after they get home.

And then there are the photos: rain jackets, boats, waterfalls, Norwegian flags, enormous landscapes and six friends looking very happy to be right in the middle of all of it.

Finishing in Stockholm

The final stop was Stockholm, with sightseeing and time to experience the city before heading home. Their plans included a boat tour, the Vasa Museum and the ABBA Museum, because there are some things one simply has to do while in Sweden.
